It uses the informal format (your address and the date at the top, "Dear [name]," as the greeting, "Yours ever," at the close) and fills the body with what a visitor would actually see, hear, and do there. It is easier to show you than to describe it, so you should come, but here is what I can put in a letter.

The village sits on the bank of a small river, and the river is the first thing you notice, because everything is arranged around it. The road from the bus stand runs along it for the last mile before you reach the houses. In the morning the water is busy with boats going to the market on the other side, and by afternoon it is quiet enough to swim in.

Behind the houses the paddy fields start, and in this season they are so green that the color is almost hard to look at. There are mango and jackfruit trees along the edges of the fields, and a very old banyan tree near the primary school where the older men sit in the afternoon and argue about things they have already agreed on.

The market sits twice a week, and that is the day to visit. Farmers bring vegetables and fish, there is a tea stall that stays open until late, and the whole village seems to be there at once. On ordinary days it is much quieter. You wake to birds rather than to traffic, and by nine at night almost nobody is outdoors.

I will not pretend everything is easy here. The road floods in heavy rain, and the nearest hospital is some distance away. But the air is clean, people know each other, and I sleep better in three nights there than in a month in the city.

Come during your next holiday. I will take you to the market on the day it sits.

Yours ever,
Kamal

The Format, in One Table

This is an informal letter, so nothing from the application format belongs in it.

Element

What goes there

Top right

Your own address, then the date

Greeting

"Dear Shakil,"

Body

Three to five short paragraphs of description

Closing

"Yours ever," or "Yours affectionately,"

Signature

Your first name only

There is no subject line and no "Sir." If you have been practicing applications, the formal habits carry over without you noticing, so check the top of your page before you start writing the body. The formal alternative, and the rules behind it, are set out in Application Writing Format: The Rules Behind Every School Application. The other informal letter in this cluster, congratulating a friend on his success, uses the same wrapper for a completely different purpose, which makes the two useful to practice as a pair.

Some exam questions also ask you to write the address on an envelope at the end. Whether that is required depends on how your question is worded, so read it before you start.

The Detail Test: Would This Letter Describe Any Village?

Read your own draft and ask one question about every sentence: could I write this exact sentence about a village I have never seen?

If the answer is yes, the sentence is doing no work. "The village is very beautiful. There are many trees. The people are simple and honest. The air is fresh." Those four sentences describe roughly every village on earth, and an examiner reading a hundred scripts has seen them a hundred times.

Now look at what survives the test in the model above. The road from the bus stand runs along the river for the last mile. The market sits twice a week. The old men gather under the banyan tree in the afternoon. By nine at night almost nobody is outdoors. None of those is dramatic, and that is the point: they are ordinary, specific, and they place the reader somewhere real.

Five Things to Put In That Nobody Else Will

If you are stuck, these five slots reliably produce specific detail. Fill each one with something true about your own village, not the model's.

Water. A river, a canal, a pond, a haor, or the absence of any. Say which, and say what people do with it.

The crop or the trade. Paddy, jute, fish, vegetables, weaving, boat-making. This one detail tells a reader more about a village than a paragraph of adjectives.

The market day. When it sits, what is sold, whether the village fills up. If your village has a fair, the sensory method in A Village Fair Paragraph is directly reusable here.

A sound at a specific time. The mosque before dawn, birds at first light, boats in the morning, silence by nine.

One honest difficulty. The road that floods, the distance to a hospital, the electricity that goes.

That fifth one is the most useful and the least used. An examiner reading a letter that admits one real problem trusts the rest of the letter more. It also reads like a person writing to a friend rather than a tourism advertisement, which is exactly what the question is asking for.

Describing Is a Different Skill from Arguing

Most of the writing a student practices for this paper is argument: a problem, its causes, its effects, a solution. Description works differently, and using the argument structure here is the second most common way this question goes wrong.

A description does not need a thesis. It needs an order. Choose one and hold it: from the edge of the village inward, or from morning to night, or from what you see to what you hear to what you do. The model above moves from the river, to the fields behind the houses, to the market, to the rhythm of an ordinary day. Any consistent order works. No order at all reads as a list.

If this distinction is new to you, the difference between describing and arguing is worked through in more depth in How to Write a Paragraph for Any Exam, and it applies to letters exactly as it applies to paragraphs.

What If You Have Never Lived in a Village?

Plenty of students taking this exam have always lived in Dhaka, Chattogram, or Khulna, and the question still comes. Two honest options work.

Write about a village you actually know, such as the one your grandparents live in or the one you visit during holidays, and say so in the letter: "the village where my grandparents live." That is a true sentence and it costs you nothing in marks.

Or write about your own town or neighborhood if the question allows it. Read the wording carefully first, because some versions of this question specify "your village" and some say "your village or town."

What you should not do is invent a childhood you did not have and then decorate it, because invented detail is exactly the kind of detail that comes out flat. The five slots above work just as well for a village you visit twice a year as for one you grew up in.

FAQ

Is this letter formal or informal?
Informal. If a sentence could describe a village you have never seen, replace it with something specific: the crop, the market day, the water, a sound at a particular hour.

Should I mention any problems in the village?
Yes, one. A single honest difficulty, such as a road that floods or a hospital that is far away, makes the rest of the letter more believable and reads like a real letter rather than an advertisement.

What if I have always lived in a city?
Write about a village you genuinely know, such as your grandparents' village, and say so in the letter. Check the question wording too, since some versions allow "your village or town."

How long should the letter be?
Three to five short paragraphs. Description is judged on how specific it is, not on how many lines it fills.

A model letter describing your village to a friend for Class 6 to HSC, plus the detail test that stops your letter reading like every other one.

[36
27,38,26
post-1027","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-application-and-letter-writing","tag-exam-writing-guide","tag-letter-writing","tag-ssc-hsc-english
["GET
